First Steps

Taught to surface for life’s air,

her mother showed her it was there.

Darting to a safer place,

she learned from watching mother race.

So each step in life was taught,

a mother’s life true wisdom brought.

Now the child swims on her own

with skills of life so finely honed,

Equipped to share what she’s been shown

with the tiny child of her own.

We likewise pass on to our seed

the truths and virtues that they need,

to live victorious o’re this sod

to grow in grace and walk with God.

By running true the race God gives

our life the proof that Jesus lives.

With our feet upon His path so true

little feet will follow too.

“Train up a child in the way

he should go, and when he is old

he shall not depart from it.”

Proverb 22:6
