This piece of wood records the times
and trials of this fair land;
each time of poor or plenty
is marked by a double band.
The many years together
shape a pattern and a form.
The hand of God, through hand of man,
gives this tree a life reborn.
By submitting to the will of God
the twig became a timber,
in yielding up it’s ancient shape
became a beauty to remember.
For one thing is most certain
all control is in God’s hand,
whether it be the shaping of a tree
or His plan for the life of man.
So don’t resist the Master’s hand
when He moves to shape your life;
a masterpiece He’ll make you,
unless you twist beneath the knife,
and cause by your own wisdom,
the blindness to remain
when by trusting God and His loving Son,
you could be born to live again.
